To me, a good painting is not judged by correct techniques, strokes, etc. What I consider a fine painting is when it can make me feel as though I am part of the scene or that can make me feel the mood of the painter. Yau Yu Ngai's paintings does exactly that. His detailed sceneries tell a story and each time you look at them you discover something that wasn't noticeable before! He paints both large and small paintings but no matter what you can feel his love for each painting that he paints.

In today's world of traditional Chinese landscape painting, Yau Yu Ngai's work shows all the brush work of the old school, yet incorporating a distinct mood that pulls the viewer into the scene that he paints. This is seldom experienced with most other landscape painters, past and present. He is a dynamic painter who paints finely detailed sceneries as easily as controlled brush splashing technique to simple but elegant strokes.
One tends to spend time gazing at his work and very often one can get quite an emotional buzz. His large paintings are breath-taking, his folding fans are a breath of fresh air and his scrolls just takes your breath away! In short, Yau Yu Ngai's paintings are the thinking person's object of desire.

We bought two Yau Yu Ngai paintings in Hong Kong at an art exhibition during our visit there. My wife has one placed at her office together with other better known artists and the larger one at our home in the living room which houses my Hi Fi System and other paintings. Many of her clients commented on the painting and several even offered to buy it which my wife declined saying that it was a gift from me. Friends that come to our home would also comment on how comforting it was to listen to music while looking at the Yau Yu Ngai landscape painting. It was as if they were transported into the painting itself! It feels wonderful when people really enjoy what you hang on the walls.

Some of his black and white paintings has so much tones in between that only a few big name artist can actually proudly produce. So full of contrast from the harden rock surfaces to the cotton filled moody clouds. Wish there are more artist like that, it can only make the world a better place.
