Yau Tak Kwong's (pen name ‘Yu Ngai’), parents came from Dong Guan in Guang Dong, China. He was born in Hong Kong in 1958. Yau’s father ‘Yau Chi Joy’ is a master of the Confucian wisdom, the ‘I-Ching’. Yau therefore grew up in the deeply fertilized soil of Chinese traditions with his family. He started learning the art of traditional Chinese landscape painting at an early age. He studied the ‘Six principles of Landscape painting’ under the watchful eyes of his teacher the Master ‘Lau Bing Hang’. With his perseverance for perfection, Yau quickly became well known in the Hong Kong advertising industry. However, Chinese landscape painting was his passion which made him leave the commercial world and moved to China to continue his study and research into traditional Chinese landscape painting.
